Adirondack Chair Plans - Building a Relaxing Chair

Even if you have never been able to visit the Adirondack mountains in upstate New York, you have probably seen or at least hear of the Adirondack chair. With its straight lines and gentle curves, it is quite a relaxing chair and something you can enjoy building yourself as much as you will enjoy relaxing in it.

Building an Adirondack chair can be done in a weekend and is a lot of fun to do, and even more fun to relax in.

This chair is commonly made out of cedar, because of its natural resistance to rot, but you can make it out of any wood you choose. If you do prefer cedar, you may be able to find white or red at your local lumber yard depending on where you live.

Galvanized deck screws work good to hold the chair together, and you can counter bore the screw holes and plug them with some cedar plugs to give your chair a natural look.

To finish your chair, you may want to put a coat or two of polyurethane on your finished peice to further protect it from the elements.

Build Your Own Adirondack Chair with These Plans

The Adirondack chair has been around since the early 1900s and continues to be a popular style even today. Building one takes a little time, and it is not that hard to do, even though it may look like a project not everyone can do. I actually built one in a weekend using these plans and it actually came out looking pretty good! Even I was impressed when I finished it, and it looks great on my porch. Now all the neighbors want me to build them one to, and now that I have done it once, I know it will be a breeze. The best part is i can actually make a some money doing it so I can buy some more tools... oh boy!!
The other thing I really liked about the plans I got is that there are a lot of different projects that come with it. It comes with 14000 different project plans and lets face it, that's enough to keep anyone busy while saving them a ton of money building furniture for their house. You can even sell some of the things you make, like I plan to, and buy more tools or just make some extra money.
